Volunteer with TreeFolks for Tree Planting and Tree Care at Perez Elementary!

TreeFolks planted 50 5-gallon trees at this site in Austin in October 2022 as part of a project to increase urban canopy equity. Austin has experienced a 25% reduction in tree canopy cover over the past 30 years due to rapid urban growth, disproportionately affecting vulnerable communities in the eastern crescent of the city. The Dove Springs neighborhood, where these trees were planted, has a low tree canopy covering many people of color and impoverished residents. We will re-plant 20 dead trees and mulch and prune the rest of the trees. Tree mulching is needed to help retain moisture around roots, prevent weed growth, and protect the trees from extreme temperatures.

TreeFolks will provide all materials needed, including gloves, tools, water, and snacks. Please bring a water bottle, dress for working outdoors, and take breaks when necessary!
