Urban Orchards Program

Eating a diet rich in fresh produce promotes optimal health, but many Central Texans lack access to such foods. Planting fruit trees in publicly accessible places offers an easy, low cost way to increase the availability of healthy foods in our communities. Fruit trees are also beautiful, and provide shade and wildlife habitat. With a little bit of planning and care, fresh, delicious fruit can be enjoyed almost year round!

TreeFolks’ Urban Orchards program strengthens central Texas’ communities by providing materials and information to support the establishment, care, harvest and appreciation of publicly accessible fruit and nut tree plantings. We work with community gardens, institutions, HOA’s, and individuals to plan and plant their orchards. We provide free fruit trees, tools, and teach orchard care workshops. If you are interested in participating, contact us today at shade@treefolks.org.

If you are looking for information about how to care for fruit trees, check out our Orchard Resource Guide. It contains lots of useful information about planning an orchard and information about good trees for our area. To apply for the Urban Orchards program, fill out and return this application.
