An Austin Night for Nature – Thursday, August 11th @ 8 pm

By June 30, 2011No Comments

AUSTIN, TX The Ecological Society of America (ESA) announces “An Austin Night for Nature”, inspired by Austin’s culture of environmental awareness and incredible musical heritage. This one-night-only concert will take place on Thursday August 11, 2011, at 8:00 pm (doors at 7:00pm) at ACL Live at the Moody Theatre, Willie Nelson Blvd in Austin.

Three quintessentially Austin bands will play sets — rugged roots rocker Alejandro Escovedo and the Sensitive Boys headline the show, along with singer-guitarist Carolyn Wonderland and eclectic Terri Hendrix.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit local environmental groups, who have foci ranging from conservation and youth education to urban beautification. Environmental groups will have tables describing their efforts set up at the theatre and patrons are welcomed to browse through tables prior to and during the concert.

Austin’s culture is closely aligned with ESA’s focus on “Earth Stewardship”, dedicated to “shaping trajectories of social-ecological change at local to global scales, to enhance ecosystem resilience and human well-being.” ESA is the nation’s largest organization of ecological scientists, with 10,000 national and international members.  It will be holding its 96th Annual Meeting August 7-12 at the Austin Convention Center.

“Many of our members have a passion for music that is equal to their passion for ecological science,” said ESA President Terry Chapin, himself an avid fiddle player.  “We’re really pleased to be meeting in a town with such a rich musical scene and environmental awareness and very much hope this concert will be memorable to everyone who comes out for it.”
