SUMMARY:Super Volunteer Advanced Training: Soil Ecology & Tree Health
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the organisms living in the soil and how they affect trees with one of TreeFolks own Super Volunteers! We will discuss soil types, the soil food web, and get our hands dirty with some soil samples.\nDr. Sabrina L. Slater is an international Microbiologist with almost a decade of experience in researching how “bad” bacteria interact with humans. She holds 4 degrees in Bioscience-related fields, culminating in her PhD from Imperial College London (UK), and is currently a Collection Editor at the UK Microbiology Society’s flagship journal. Since moving to Austin in 2020, Sabrina has reached full hippy status: as well as being a recently-minted TreeFolks Super, she volunteers with the Green Corn Project (who install vegetable garden beds for the underprivileged members of our community), grows a 12 x 12 ft vegetable patch in her own East-Austin front yard, and spends entirely too much time squatting in and squinting at her soil. She hopes that this workshop teaches you something about our Central Texas soil and how we can harness the power of microbes to serve our trees and people. Connect with her on LinkedIn.\nThis training is free and open to anyone, but you must register to attend. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Gillian: volunteer@treefolks.org ( mailto:volunteer@treefolks.org ), (512) 761-8738 cell\n
