DESCRIPTION:Volunteer with TreeFolks for a Tree Care work day at Widén Elementary!\nTreeFolks planted 50 native trees at this site in East Austin in March 2024 as part of a project to increase urban canopy equity. Austin has experienced a 25% reduction in tree canopy cover over the past 30 years due to rapid urban growth, which is disproportionately affecting vulnerable communities in the eastern crescent of the city. Tree mulching is needed to help retain moisture around roots, prevent weed growth, and protect the trees from extreme temperatures.\nTreeFolks will provide all necessary materials, including gloves, tools, water, and snacks.
