TreeFolks is\u00a0one of the proud sponsors of\u00a0The Trees of Govalle,<\/em> a free performance featuring the City of Austin’s Urban Forestry employees and the trees of Govalle Park, presented by\u00a0Forklift Danceworks and Fusebox.\u00a0Featuring the trees<\/strong> of East Austin’s Govalle park <\/strong>and the hardworking Urban Forestry employees<\/strong> who care for them, The Trees of Govalle<\/em> will highlight\u00a0the care and dedication<\/strong>\u00a0that goes into maintaining some of our\u00a0city’s oldest and tallest organisms<\/strong>.\u00a0Rooted in one of Austin’s oldest neighborhoods, the dance will also incorporate the\u00a0Govalle-Johnston Terrace neighborhood’s rich history<\/strong>\u00a0and celebrates some of Austin’s longest-standing families.<\/p>\n Working closely with Urban Forestry employees<\/strong>, choreographers Allison Orr and Krissie Marty<\/strong> will utilize the movement and finesse of the arborists and their machinery to create a dance highlighting the skill, commitment, and elegance that is needed to keep our city’s green space healthy. During the dance, audience members will also learn about how to care for our urban forests, and upon arrival audience members will be directed to walk along a wooded path.<\/strong>\u00a0During this walk, local arborists and volunteers from TreeFolks<\/a> will offer audience members information about how to care for and maintain a healthy and vibrant urban forest.<\/p>\n Saturday, April 11th <\/strong>& Sunday, April 12th<\/strong> Govalle Park<\/a><\/strong> Presented as part of the\u00a0Fusebox Festival<\/a>\u00a0as part of the\u00a0thinkEAST<\/em><\/a>\u00a0Living Charrette Project<\/p>\n Forklift Danceworks is thrilled to announce that 2014 National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellow Manuel \u201cCowboy\u201d Donley<\/strong> will be a featured musician in The Trees of Govalle<\/em>.\u00a0Manuel “Cowboy” Donley is a Mexican-American singer, multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, composer, and arranger. Donley grew up in the Govalle neighborhood<\/strong> and got his start playing in East Austin. Today, he is credited as pioneer of Tejano music<\/strong> and is known both as a bandleader in the orquesta (Tejano) style as well as the tr\u00edo rom\u00e1ntico style. In addition to being a\u00a0NEA National Heritage Fellow<\/strong>, Manuel Donley has been inducted in the Tejano Music Hall of Fame<\/strong>, has received a Lifetime Achievement Award<\/strong> from the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center in 2012<\/strong>, and has been honored with a community park dedication by the Austin Latino Music Association<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The Trees of Govalle<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>will be\u00a0entirely free\u00a0<\/strong>and will be accompanied by an original musical score composed and directed by\u00a0Graham Reynolds<\/strong>\u00a0with production and lighting design by\u00a0Stephen Pruitt.\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n The Trees of Govalle\u00a0<\/em>is sold out! <\/strong>But you can receive a free ticket if you sign up to volunteer<\/strong> either Saturday or Sunday night with TreeFolks or with Forklift Danceworks.
