Signs of Growth: Update from the Blanco

This week’s blog post was contributed by Andreina (Ina) Alexatos, Reforestation Manager.

During the 2015-2016 season, the Texas Conservation Corps planted ten 1-gallon bald cypress trees at Five Mile Dam Park.  It was part of a pilot project to “test the waters” on how planting would take place near the banks of the Blanco River.  Some of them have grown an incredible amount in just 2 years!  In the picture, I note the location of the terminal bud scars, which indicate this particular specimen’s seasonal growth.  It is very exciting to go back and visit with these trees and see them doing so well, so we would like to thank everyone who has supported the Trees for the Blanco program so far.    To learn more about our reforestation program along the Blanco River, check out our Trees for the Blanco website.
