Tree Care at Bethany Cemetery
Date: Thursday, March 19, 2026
Volunteer Shift: 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Location: Bethany Cemetery, 1330 Springdale Rd, Austin, TX 78721
Volunteer with TreeFolks for a Tree Care work day! Help provide care for trees planted at the Bethany Cemetery last fall as part of our Neighbors Planting Trees program.
TreeFolks partnered with the Bethany Cemetery Association and Black Austin Tours to restore the tree canopy lost to recent storms while uplifting the stories of those laid to rest there. Austin has experienced a 25% reduction in tree canopy cover over the past 30 years due to rapid urban growth, which is disproportionately affecting vulnerable communities in the eastern crescent of the city. TreeFolks will provide follow up care for these trees for 3 years.
Trees planted in urban settings need our love and attention to grow and thrive. You will be helping our staff to provide basic tree care, such as mulching, weeding, and light pruning to retain moisture around roots, prevent weed growth, and protect trees from extreme temperatures.
No experience or tools are needed. We will train everyone at the beginning of the event, and provide all tools, materials, gloves, water, and snacks. Please bring a water bottle, dress for working outdoors, and take breaks when necessary!
If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with Gillian: volunteer@treefolks.
