Tree Planting at Flying K Ranch – Rooted in Recovery
Join TreeFolks and Flying K Ranch for a special volunteer tree-planting event where we will plant 1,000 saplings together! This event will kick off the planting component of our new Rooted in Recovery program, a post-disaster reforestation effort designed to help communities recover trees lost in the July 4, 2025, floods in northwest Travis County and surrounding areas.
No experience is necessary, and we will train all volunteers at the beginning of the event. We will provide gloves, water, snacks, and tools. Please wear clothes appropriate for working outdoors that you don’t mind getting a little bit dirty. The area we are planting in has tall grass and shrubs, so we suggest wearing long pants and boots. You will receive an email the week of the event with an address, a map of the event location, and specific details and instructions on where to park, etc. We look forward to working with you!
Why Flying K Ranch?
TreeFolks’ Reforestation and CommuniTrees programs are combining forces to move forward with Rooted in Recovery, a post-disaster reforestation effort designed to help communities recover trees lost in the July 4, 2025, floods. The program provides no-cost restoration services to eligible landowners in Travis, Williamson, and Burnet counties whose riparian areas, streambanks, or floodplain forests were damaged by the flooding.
Through Rooted in Recovery, TreeFolks provides native trees and plants selected for Central Texas floodplain conditions, educational planting opportunities, site assessments, restoration planning, technical guidance, and post-planting support.
This work is about more than replacing what was lost. Restoring creekside forests helps stabilize streambanks, reduce erosion, slow floodwaters, improve water quality, and rebuild habitat for wildlife. Rooted in Recovery helps damaged landscapes recover while creating healthier, more resilient communities for the future.
