When someone who creates inspiring and delightful outdoor spaces for a living chooses to support Carbon+ Credits, it’s worth leaning in.
Carbon+ Credits are a local way to turn climate action into trees you can point to. One credit equals one metric ton of CO₂ removed from the atmosphere as trees planted through TreeFolks’ Central Texas Floodplain Reforestation Program (CTFRP) grow and store carbon in their trunks, branches, and roots. The “+” means your purchase also supports additional co-benefits, such as cleaner air, more wildlife habitat, better rainwater capture, energy savings, and cooler neighborhoods.
Alignment and the ability to see real-world local impact and change.
To help more people understand what Carbon+ Credits really are, and why they matter, we asked Daniel Woodroffe four questions many of us have pondered. Daniel is the President and Founder of dwg., a landscape architecture studio rooted in Austin and the UK. His work has long focused on how green infrastructure and well-designed public spaces can make communities healthier and more resilient. That’s why his perspective carries weight: he doesn’t just care about the environment in theory—he’s spent his career shaping places where nature and people can thrive together.
- What inspired you to purchase Carbon+ Credits from TreeFolks?
Alignment and the ability to see real-world local impact and change.
With so many options out there to “click away your carbon issues”, TreeFolks offered a direct way to solve multiple problems at one time: How do we measure and offset our carbon footprint? How do we see the impacts of our carbon credit purchase? How can we leverage our impact in our own backyard? While there are so many options, the ability to tend, grow, and improve our own local environment was key. Then the ability to lean in more with established partners like TreeFolks just made it even easier to choose the Carbon+ Credits program with TreeFolks.
- Was there a moment, value, or goal that helped you decide to take this step?
Yes – several. As a steward of the environment, we are always keen to measure our impact locally and globally.
Celebrating our firm’s ten-year anniversary made it easy for us to start purchasing Carbon+ Credits and to use them as a case study. I am happy to say, it was flawless, and we were even able to participate in tree plantings to fully realize the physical impact we are having on our Central Texas tree canopy.
- When you think about the impact of your Carbon+ Credits, what feels most meaningful to you?
The ability to see real-world local impact and change – restoring our riparian corridors and rebuilding our urban tree canopy. Being able to purchase Carbon+ Credits from a local, community-focused organization that we already care so much about.
The big difference and epiphany of the TreeFolks Carbon+ Credits was the real-world, local impact it has.
- Carbon markets can feel abstract to some people. What would you say to someone who is unsure or skeptical about buying local Carbon+ Credits?
At the onset of our research, we were equally skeptical about the real impact of Carbon Credits. So often, they felt like an easy way to feel good – round up / pay a small fee to feel less guilty about our current lifestyles. The big difference and epiphany of the TreeFolks Carbon+ Credits was the real-world, local impact it has – having the physical ability to be directly involved in the replanting/regeneration of our urban tree canopy.
- How does supporting local reforestation align with your broader values or sustainability goals?
As landscape architects, we are stewards of the environment, and sustainability defines everything we do. So working with and supporting a non-profit whose sole purpose is to reforest, regenerate, and repopulate our urban tree canopy while reconnecting people to nature and natural systems is a natural fit that helps amplify our shared missions and visions.
Being able to use a local, community-focused organization that we already care so much about.
Daniel’s takeaway is simple: Carbon+ Credits matter most when you can see them working. He chose TreeFolks because the impact stays local, supports real reforestation in Central Texas, and even gives supporters a chance to show up and help plant trees. If carbon markets have ever felt abstract, his point is clear: TreeFolks makes it tangible.
